Heavy full tang bowie knife featuring nickel silver guards stamped with an ornate foliate design and exceptional, deeply textured stag scales inlaid with a nickel silver escutcheon. Spear point blade stamped on ricasso with I*XL trademark. The face of the blade further stamped G. WOSTENHOLM & SON WASHINGTON WORKS SHEFFIELD. Morocco leather sheath with nickel silver tip and throat. The body with gold leaf decoration including I*XL trademark. Circa 1850's. A classic spear point bowie style by one of the most famous Sheffield bowie knife manufacturers who focused on the export of knives for the American market. CONDITION: In very good condition overall. The blade has been cleaned somewhat with scattered scratches and patches of pitting remaining, but retains its original shape. Guards with little sign of wear or damage; there is one small end crack at a handle pin. The sheath is oversized and is likely a later replacement.
