After the German military's initial invasion of the Soviet Union, it was clear that the G41(W) rifle was not sufficient for combat usage. In 1943, Walther combined design elements from the G41(W) and the Soviet SVT-40 rifles and created the G43. This example was manufactured at Berlin-Lubecker in 1944. The left side of the receiver is marked "G. 43 duv 44" follow by several waffenamts and the serial number. Most components are marked with an eagle over "214" waffenamt stamp. Magazine is marked with an "aye" manufacturer code followed by an indiscernible waffenamt stamp and "K43". Stock is comprised of laminated wood and upper handguard is of bakelite. Muzzle is threaded, which is proper for "G. 43" marked rifles, and right side of receiver features rails for a ZF pattern optic and mount. Receiver and stock match. Bolt carrier and bolt housing are matching, with the bolt and firing pin being matched via electro-pencil. Gas cylinder is matched to the receiver via electro-pencil. CONDITION: Metal components retain pleasing amounts of their original blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear all around, with some light oxidation on the bolt carrier. Excellent bright bore, exhibiting well-defined lands and grooves throughout. Stock shows some scattered handling marks and exhibits a few areas of marring. Bakelite upper handguard bears a sizable crack but otherwise shows few minor cosmetic handing marks. A nice example of a rare German World War II production semi-automatic rifle. -MLW-
