Originally manufactured as standard K98 bolt action rifle at the Steyr-Daimler-Puch factory in 1941. Receiver is marked "bnz/ 41" over the chamber, with four eagle over "WaA623" waffenamts on the right side of the receiver ring with 2 more on the right side of the barrel. Eagle firing proofs are visible on the left side of the receiver and barrel. Mitchell's Mausers import stamp is present on the left side of the barrel near the muzzle. Rifle has been refinished and converted to the sniper variation by Mitchell's Mausers and features a reproduction short side-rail mount that is fitted with a reproduction ZF39 Zielvier Jena 4x scope. Receiver and barrel appear to be original and matching with other components being force matched to the receiver. Forward barrel band and bayonet stud do not match. Complete with a period leather sling. CONDITION: Metal components retain bountiful amounts of their reapplied finish, exhibiting few minor areas of wear. Bolt shows some silvering from cycling. Bright bore, showing an area of what appears to be old oxidation, but otherwise retaining well defined rifling throughout. Stock is excellent, as sanded and revarnished, showing few and minor handling and storage marks. Reproduction ZF39 scope is and mount is excellent, showing minimal wear and retaining a clear optic. Right most locking screw head has been broken. A very nice Steyr K98 rifle that has been nicely restored and converted by Mitchell's Mausers. -MLW-
