1894 vintage Winchester Model 1894 rifle, serial number 9038. Special ordered takedown frame. 26" round barrel with full length magazine tube. Chambered in .38-55 WCF. Lyman blade front sight with ivory bead, rear barrel sight provision is plugged. Tang mounted Lyman sight. Plain straight grain varnished walnut stock and forearm with rifle style butt. Blue with case hardened lever, hammer, and buttplate. Accompanying Cody Museum letter dated October 11, 2012 confirms configuration and warehouse receipt on October 14, 1895 and shipped from warehouse on May 11, 1896 on order number 10978. CONDITION: Excellent overall with approximately 93-95% original blue on barrel and magazine tube, with a "fingerprint" at the left side barrel address, most blue loss at the front barrel band. Receiver shows 90-95% bright original blue with most blue loss at the carry point on top of frame. Strong bright case colors present on the lever and hammer. Buttplate has turned a nickel patina color. Bore is bright and clean. Action is tight and crisp. Wood is excellent plus showing light to moderate wear. Overall a most attractive first year rifle chambered in desirable .38-55 WCF with special ordered take-down frame. -MKS-
