Kentucky style flint lock rifle made by Joseph Daniels of Barbour County, Virginia circa 1820. Full octagon rifled barrel signed in script "J. Daniels" with rifle sights. Flint single bolt "J. Cooper" marked lock controlled by double set triggers. Full curly maple plain stock with flat barrel keys and brass hardware including an engraved 4 piece patchbox with "Q" type finial and 3 piercings. Patchbox lid nicely engraved with floral pattern. CONDITION: Metal has aged plum patina with some surface corrosion and usual pitting by the breech. Lock is replacement and gun was probably percussion at one time. Wood has some restoration with hole plugged in saddle area, wrist repair, and 10" of forestock repaired. Several other cracks around lock and on forestock with some added finish and other dings and marks. Dark bore with sticky mechanics. Gun has been restored to a fine aged look. DLM
