U.S. Model 1816 Type I musket with Harper's Ferry 1820 dated lock. Round smoothbore barrel with front sight that doubles as socket bayonet fastener. Barrel is marked with "VP" and a "STAR" and dated on tang 1820. Flint beveled plate lock with iron pan marked "Harper's Ferry 1820" and "(Turned Head Eagle) / US". Walnut full military 2 band stock with double strap front iron hardware. Comes with polished "US" over "WI" marked triangular socket bayonet and iron button top ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains what looks like original patina with some slight surface corrosion. Lock appears to be a refinished replacement with barrel bands and buttplate having a coat of finish added. Wood has been lightly cleaned with some age cracking around lock and small crack behind tang. Bayonet has been cleaned long ago and looks to have old coat of nickel applied.
