Colt Artillery Single Action revolver with 1885 vintage frame, serial number 115062. Typical of these artillery revolvers, they were rebuilt in the 1890s using original cavalry revolvers; serviceable parts were reassembled and barrels shortened to 5 - 1/2", and subsequently reissued to Army troops in the Philippines at the turn of the century. Other serial numbers include 34901 on trigger guard, 137769 on bottom of backstrap, and 117693 on barrel underneath ejector rod housing. Frame is marked "US" on left side and is DFC inspected above serial number on frame. 5 - 1/2" round barrel chambered in .45 Long Colt with blade front sight. 1 piece plain walnut grips with "R.A.C" inspector mark on butt that are otherwise unmarked but appear to be original to the backstrap and trigger guard assembly. Comes in modern produced wooden case with an original Frankford Arsenal box of 12 .45 Long Colt cartridges, dated 1878. CONDITION: Good, with almost all of the original bluing and case colors faded to a dark gray patina with light pitting and handling marks throughout. Grips are very good and retain most of their original finish with minor wear and no signs of cracking or major distress. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand and is tight. Bore is bright with frosting in the grooves and visible rifling. Case is excellent. TON
