Type III configuration manufactured 1831 through 1844. Standard 42" .69 caliber smoothbore barrel with "P / (Eagle Head) / V" proofs and "OC 75" rack number markings. Full length walnut musket stock mounted with 3 iron bands, with front band having a brass blade sight, 2 piece trigger guard, and "US" marked butt plate. Stock marked with script "LS" and "JW" cartouches, and another illegible oval cartouche at the wrist with "HS" stamp. Original flint configuration, with lock plate marked vertically "SPRING / FIELD / 1832" to the left of the cock, and with a federal eagle and "US" markings to the right. Tang also dated 1832. CONDITION: Overall good. Metal components exhibit a pleasing chocolate patina with less patina at the muzzle, likely where it was protected by a bayonet. Some light pitting in areas with heavy pitting on butt plate. Wood dark with some scattered marks, and a more significant loss near the center band. Crisp mechanics. BAS
