Rare Confederate Griswold and Gunnison percussion revolver copy of a 1851 Colt Navy in .36 caliber and is 1 of only 3700 made by Griswold and Gunnison, Griswoldville, Georgia between 1862 and 1864. Consignor has receipt with guarantee of provenance and original sales receipt from 2001. Letter states that gun was purchased from the Allison Family in Saltville, Virginia who are descendants of the original individual who picked it up after the Battle of Saltville in 1864. The Battle was in defense of the local salt works and also included 2 of the few African American Union Calvary Troops. The gun is a Second Model with brass front sight and round to octagon barrel numbered "2163" on left side of frame. 6 shot empty cylinder numbered "2163". Brass frame numbered "2163" with grip having a "3" in corner and the Roman Numeral "III" stamped on guard parts. Comes with documents of authenticity. CONDITION: As found condition with condition mirroring a gun found shortly after the war with light pitting and readable serial numbers. Brass and screws mirror similar condition with cylinder moving. Grips missing along with mainspring and wedge screw. Gun has stuck action and appears to have been run over with bend at frame joint. Great piece of history and a rare gun. DLM
