Standard configuration P.38 manufactured by Mauser in 1944. Metal components are salt blued, with some smaller components in the white. Left side of receiver is marked "P.38" followed by "byf/44" and the serial number, with the right side bearing 2 eagles over "WaA135" acceptance proofs surrounding a firing proof. Left side of frame and left side of breechblock also bear Mauser eagle over "WaA135" acceptance proofs. Matching numbers include the frame, receiver, barrel, and locking block. This example is accompanied by two Walther eagle "359" magazines, which are marked "P.38v/U" (indicating the magazines were not hardened) as well as a black leather softshell holster "9" and "1944" within an oak leaf insignia, indicating manufacture by Neuner Lederfabrik. CONDITION: Metal components retain the majority of their original salt blue finish, exhibiting a few areas of wear and thinning all around. Bore is bright, showing light pitting and oxidation on the lands and retains good rifling throughout. Bakelite grips show some scattered handling marks. Leather holster shows scattered handling marks from use as well as a few areas of crazing. Manufacturer stampings are soft but legible. MLW
