Stockel lists three Eccarts in Prague from with cumulative dates circa 1750 through 1818, all likely family: Heinrich, Ignaz, and Leopold. Swamped octagonal barrel with swamped barrel. Blade front sight, rear sight with two leaves, one standing and one folding with diminutive notches. Deeply struck gold poincon depicting a swan. Lock is engraved with a set of hounds chasing a boar with the hunter following behind the swan neck cock. Light, playful scroll on cock and pan cover. Gold touch hole. Brass tipped ramrod, probably the original, retained by two brass ferrules with five faceted sides and decorated with scroll, feeding into a reinforced mouth decorated en suite. Sideplate in three parts, each with a depiction of a dragon. Simple relief carving of florals at tang. German cheekpiece. Brass buttplate with baroque scroll and motifs including a cherubim. Germanic style trigger guard with extension. Patchbox looks to be original. Sling loop at forestock and stud on toe line. CONDITION: Excellent, with an even browning with some twist still visible in the Damascus. Lock has been lightly cleaned in the European style cleaning with some spotting that does not detract. Wood is clean with a repair at toe and some normal bumps and bruises throughout from use. One minor chip missing in front of trigger guard. Rifling is well defined with a touch of frosting. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand. A nice example. EW
