Manufactured 1944 as per factory letter. Serrated slope front sight, square notch rear sight. "P" proof in front of rear sight, nicely visible hardness line at front of slide. Barrel with "COLT 45 AUTO" on lower left side of chamber, "P" on left lug, "7" in front of lug. Left side of slide with 2 line 2 block patent and address information, with intercepting pony. Left side of frame with "G.H.D" vertical proof above checkered magazine release, "P" proof next to magazine release. Right side with crossed cannon cartouche, "UNITED STATES PROPERTY", serial number, "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY". Right side of trigger guard with "4", left side with "1" and Colt VP proof. Checkered spur hammer, slide release, thumb safety, and short stamped trigger. Long 1911A1 grip safety, serrated arched mainspring housing with lanyard loop. Coltwood grips with internal ribs and thick reinforcing rings. Full blue magazine with "R" on lip for Risdon manufacture. Accompanied by a Colt factory letter identifying gun by serial number and indicating shipment to the Transportation Officer at Springfield Armory on October 17th, 1944, as part of Colt Factory Order 4063 for 1000 guns. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining virtually all of the original parkerization with appropriate burnishing in the crossed cannon cartouche, and some minor marks from handling and use. Some very minor silvering to reciprocating areas. Grips are very good with no cracks or chips. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is excellent with frosting in grooves. Clearly, this gun was used very lightly. EW
