Winchester Model 1886 with odd length barrel made by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1891. 21" blued Winchester marked octagon barrel in caliber "40-82 W.C.F." fitted with Beech combination front sight measuring 3/4" from muzzle (usual distance) with rear sight dovetail fitted with sight blank with full blued magazine tube with fastener at correct distance from muzzle with slot for magazine tube near muzzle and appearing factory. Case hardened solid frame action with plain trigger and fitted with correct long staff Lyman Tang peep sight. Winchester walnut standard straight buttstock with crescent steel buttplate. Matching Winchester standard walnut forearm with case hardened nosecap. Cody Research confirms rifle as .40-82 caliber, octagon barrel with plain trigger with serial number applied on July 10, 1891. Gun appears to be a factory short rifle. CONDITION: 50% original barrel blue with edge wear and carry areas exhibiting a silvery patina. Action has faded to a silvery gray patina. Wood has traces of original varnish with usage marks and dings. Shootable bore with some light pitting with good mechanics. DLM
