This rifle has a hanging tag stating "WAS IN THE NORTH CAROLINA ARSENAL, WAS USED BY CSA TROOPS". The octagon barrel is unmarked and has a brass front sight with silver blade and a notched rear sight. The flat lockplate has stamp engraved designs and in the center, a partially legible oval stamped "JOS / WARRANTED". The brass furniture includes an engraved 4-piece patchbox with 8 piercings and an edelweiss finial. The rifle has double set triggers. Crudely stocked in plain maple. CONDITION: Barrel retains a lacquered brown patina. Lock is a reconversion and retains a mostly dark grey patina. Brass furniture retains a mellow patina, patchbox lid is a replacement. Stock shows wear and scattered marks from use, some wood repaired and replaced around lock. An attractive rifle with an interesting story. DMG
