1882 vintage Colt Single Action Army revolver, serial number 76273. 4 - 3/4" round barrel chambered in .44-40 Winchester Centerfire with 2-line barrel address, blade front sight, and V-frame notch rear. Gun is engraved with New York style scrolls on a punch dot background with about 75% coverage. Wrigglework borders on topstrap of frame and backstrap. Silver-plated finish. 1-piece plain ivory grips marked "W" on left grip panel near frame. Accompanying this revolver is a factory letter confirming serial number, caliber, and barrel length as well as listing that this gun was shipped "soft" January 3, 1882 to Schoverling, Daly & Gales in New York, New York in a 3 gun shipment. Type of stocks are "Not Listed". There is an additional remark that "The word 'soft' which appears with the finish indicates, the frame and gate were not case-hardened when this arm was shipped from the factory and these parts were left in a soft condition for engraving outside our [Colt] factory". CONDITION: Excellent overall with hand engraving and factory markings sharp. Silver-plated finish is still mostly present with scattered areas of light tarnishing throughout such as cylinder and right side of frame near ejector rod housing. Areas of flaking on hammer and trigger guard. Grips are slightly shy to front and backstrap and other than a very small chip at heel of left grip, are strong with no major signs of distress. Action is tight and crisp. Bore is frosted with strong rifling. A nicely engraved Colt SAA in fine condition with factory letter. TON
