Springfield Model 1842 percussion musket, dated 1852. 42" round barrel in .69 caliber smoothbore with brass blade front sight on Wickham style front barrel band. Barrel is dated 1852 near breech with "VP" proof on left side above wood line. Trumpet head full-length ramrod is present and possibly the original. Lock is marked with US armory Eagle ahead of cock with "SPRING / FIELD / 1852" behind cock. 1-piece plain walnut stock in 3-barrel band musket configuration complete with US marked military buttplate. Stock bears "CAH" cartouche on left flat in a rectangle. CONDITION: Very good, as lightly cleaned with areas of light pitting throughout and a light patina beginning to form. Stock is excellent as cleaned with cartouche sharp. Action is crisp and tight with 2 strong stops at half and full cock. Bore is dark and rough with heavy abrasion. TON
