Lot consists of (A) Early hand forged broadaxe with broken shaft. The wedge remains in the eye and exhibits age that is consistent with the axe. There are no visible markings. CONDITION: Relic. There are chips and indents around the beard, heel, toe, and blade. The cheek and butt also exhibit blemishes from use and age. The axe features blemishes that are typical of a ground dug tool. Overall poor. (B) Circa 19th century belt axe. The axe is complete with a shaft that is most likely not original to the axe. The cheek is marked "2" along with "312" which is written on a small label. The shaft features a brass plaque that reads "Axe Found in the / Ruins of Fort Sumter / After the War 1865" which was most likely inscribed with electro-pencil. CONDITION: The axe is heavily pitted and has acquired a pleasant gray patina. There are chips in the blade and imperfections around the edges. Overall good. (C) Hand forged belt axe head. The head exhibits an illegible marking on the cheek. Forge marks are visible throughout the head. The axe retains a label that reads "JKL 78-76 / 155". CONDITION: Relic. The axe exhibits heavy pitting. Overall poor. These axe heads were once part of the John K. Lattimer collection. JLD
