Referred to as the "Buggy Rifle" or "Sunday Service Rifles" due to their compact nature allowing them to fit under a buggy seat and for the story that they would be brought to picnics after Sunday morning services. After the service an impromptu shooting match could be held and the compact size meant could be hidden while worshippers were conducting their service. This example is fitted with an 11 - 1/4" round barrel with bullet starter, which retains the sight piece that would inform that shooter that he had left his starter attached. Front sight is a hooded bead-on-post sight, white rear sight is a tang mounted aperture sight. Plain, unsigned, back action percussion lock. Full length walnut stock with a lightly floral engraved silver plaque at wrist. Trigger guard with pineapple finial and protruding rear piece. Diminutive cheekpiece, iron buttplate with light floral floral engraving at top. CONDITION: Very good. Metal is largely a pleasing chocolate patina with flashes of dove grey. Stock is very good with some handling marks and a U shaped splice repair along toe line. Brass inlay on left side is lifting very slightly. Buttplate with more patina than balance but still very good. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, bore is very good with strong rifling and some minor oxidation in grooves. EMW
