Manufactured circa 1863 for use in the American Civil War, although rejected by martial inspectors and marked with "C" for condemned on cylinder and barrel assembly. Standard 8" .44 caliber round barrel, New York address, German silver front sight blade, and 6-shot rebated cylinder with naval engagement scene. Recoil shield cut for shoulder stock with cut steel backstrap. Oil finished smooth walnut grips marked on each side with inspector cartouche. CONDITION: Good. Lightly cleaned with a pleasing freckled gray patina on steel components and a layer of protective coating. Brass bright with spotted patina starting to mellow. Markings fair with cylinder scene still partially visible. Grips have impressions throughout with cartouches faint. Bore pitted with strong rifling. Crisp mechanics. Full matching numbers observed on frame, trigger guard, back strap, and barrel assembly, with partial numbers on cylinder arbor, cylinder, and wedge. BAS
