Manufactured from 1863 to 1875, with this example built for martial use during the Civil War, bearing inspector stamps on major components. Blued finish. 8" octagon barrel with 3-line "PATENTED SETP. 14, 1858/E. REMIGNTON & SONS, ILLION NEW YORK, U.S.A./NEW MODEL" address. Blade front sight and frame notch rear. 6-shot percussion cylinder with safety notches between chambers. Barrel, frame, trigger guard, and left grip marked with "D" inspector stamp, with "C" stamp also on frame. "H" and "R" inspector stamps on cylinder. Grips are 2-piece smooth walnut with script "OWA" Ainsworth inspector cartouche on left panel. Housed in period flap holster with illegible maker stamp. CONDITION: Fine. Vast majority of factory applied blued finish is retained with areas thinning to brown patina. Crisp markings. Grips good with impressions and light finish loss. Inspector cartouche still crisp. Holster dry with cracking surface and missing toe plug. BAS
