This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/15/2021
Measures approximately 26 - 3/16" from kissaki to munemachi (habaki is frozen, preventing a precise measurement). Classic shinogi zukuri form with iori mune. No visible hada or hamon. Nakago with ha agari kurijiri, and katte agari yasurime; left side dated for a day in February, 1943, right side signed Kanenori in 2 characters with painted characters and "47" at nakagojiri. Based on the cut of Nori character, signature appears to be someone signing for Kanenori rather than Kanenori himself (cf. Slough "An Oshigata Book of Modern Japanese Swordsmiths", pg. 57, plate B1.) Nakago has proofs that are difficult to read through patination, probably arsenal stamps. Tsuka with imitation rayskin same, brown tsuka ito, chrysanthemum menuki. Fuchi, kashira, kojiri, koiguchi, ashi, and semegane are in the traditional floral over roe pattern. Saya with brown pebble paint. No sarute. CONDITON: Good. Blade has some areas of scratches where it was polished, and some clouding. Spotted darkness towards habaki. Tsuba with some darkening to high edges and gilt in protected areas. Saya is good with some scrapes and areas of chipping and a repaired bend to bottom. This is a nicely presenting sword by a known maker during the period. EMW
