This rifle displays several Western Pennsylvania attributes, including its Q-finial patchbox, form, and sideplate. For an example with a Q-finial patchbox, the same sideplate, and similar form, see page 112 of "The Longrifles of Western Pennsylvania" by Rosenberger & Kaufmann. This rifle has an unsigned octagon barrel. The flat stamp-engraved lockplate has a rounded tail and is stamped " ---- & WOLFE / PITTSBURGH". The brass furniture includes a 4-piece patchbox with light engraving on skirts and fine scrolls on lid. The sideplate is unengraved. The rifle features double-set triggers. The partially figured maple stock is of western Pennsylvania form. There is a punched design along the tow between the toeplate and the back of the triggerguard. Decorated en suite along bottom of buttstock on both sides. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown patina. Lock is a reconversion and retains an applied grey patina. Brass furniture retains a mustard patina and shows scattered marks from use. Forend has been replaced at last 31 - 3/4", as well as thin splinters replaced on both sides farther back. There is also a large piece replaced between top of lockplate and barrel tang. Ramrod is an improper replacement. DMG
