Sharps Model 1863 percussion single shot carbine. Made circa 1863-65. "NLWMODEL 1863" on the chamber. "SHARP'S RIFLE/MANUFG. CO./HARTFORD CONN." marked in front of the rear sight. Standard markings on the right side of the lock and left side if the frame. "E.P.R." marked on the left side of the saddle ring bar. Two inspectors cartouches on the left side of the wrist. Blade front sight with rear ladder. Original blued finishes on the metal components. Stock and forearm look to have their original oil finish. Smooth metal butt plate. CONDITION: Metal retains 50% of its original finishes with most areas starting to form a brown patina. Stock has handling marks and scratches. There are some splatters of white paint on the stock and barrel. Bore is frosted and has a few minor pits near the muzzle. Strong rifling retained. Tight hammer. Nipple looks to be well formed. Mechanically fine. JWA
