Manufactured by Colt in 1937 with British proofs at top front edge of receiver indicating “38”, this Browning aircraft light machine gun is set up to feed left to right with charging handle on right side. This gun is fitted with spade handles as well as a professionally added block to the lower forward edge of receiver to accommodate a standard Browning pintle and includes a U.S. M2 tripod as well as 5 spare barrels, a spare shroud, a barrel extension, and 2 250 cloth Browning belts. Marked on top of receiver forward of backplate, “BROWNING MK 11* / A33019 / COLT’s P.F.A. MFG. CO. / 1937".
Electronic NFA registry indicates “COLT” as the manufacturer. “C-105886” commercial number on lower edge of right sideplate. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish near excellent professional smooth gray refinish over some barely discernible handling marks. Bore of barrel in gun has strong rifling, dark in the grooves. 1 of the spare barrels has a completely dark bore, another 1 is shot out, and the other 3 spare barrels are extremely fine with strong shiny rifling. Bolt is fine with some firing residue. Mechanics are fine with a good stiff mainspring. About as nice an example of an aircraft Browning gun as this cataloger has seen. No doubt it will draw a lot of attention at the firing range, and makes for an attractive display piece as well. Very scarce to find a pre-World War II Colt gun at all, let alone in high condition. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2021-11-050
