This New England flintlock militia officer's musket was made using some recycled Brown Bess parts and stocked in figured tiger maple, probably War of 1812 or slightly earlier. The 40" round smoothbore barrel features a blade front sight and British proofs on top, near breech. The musket has a maker marked flintlock with illegible name and interesting engraved Masonic compass marking on back of lock with lock fitting mortise quite well, indicating it is the original lock. Tiger maple stock with brass furniture including a Brown Bess style front ferrule and trigger guard with American engraved brass sideplate. Complete with its original iron ramrod. CONDITION: Metal retains a dark patina with some light surface corrosion. Touch hole area of barrel has some pitting from use. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration. Stock has pleasing untouched period surface with scattered marks from use and a small crack in toe area. Brass has a pleasing mustard patina with buttplate having a small period repair in comb area. A fine American tiger maple stocked musket. DLM
