Imperial Japanese M1899 Type 32 Second Pattern "Otsu" cavalry saber complete with its original scabbard. These swords were manufactured at the Tokyo Hohei Kosho Arsenal and were used throughout the Russo-Japanese War and both World Wars. There were 2 patterns of the Type 32 cavalry saber, the first known as the "Ko" pattern which had a blade length of 830mm and the second pattern, known as the "otsu" with a 770mm blade. This example is the second pattern with a blade length of 770mm. The sword features a katana profile blade with a narrow fuller just below the flat spine. The ricasso is stamped with the serial number "104906". The steel D guard is followed by a checkered wood grip and steel backstrap ending at a dove head pommel. The locking catch is present and functions properly. The sword is complete with its steel, tan painted scabbard with a single ring mount and hanger. CONDITION: The blade exhibits light evidence of pitting and was poorly sharpened. The guard retains some of its tan paint which worn away over time. The checkered wood grip is in good condition with no major dents. Scabbard retains about half of its original tan paint and exhibits areas of pitting. Overall good. JLD
