German World War II Red Cross Hewer with unmarked blade. The blade exhibits very nice factory cross graining along the length of the blade. The blade remains bright with the exception of a few areas of light marks or greying. The base of the blade is marked with “Ges Gesch”, which means patent pending. The crossguard and pommel are made of silver plated zinc, with no visible lifting and light patina throughout. The reverse of the crossguard is stamped with “Stendal St. 68”. It is not known if this is the city, or a street in another area. The black Bakelite grip plates are without damage and appear untouched. The black painted steel scabbard has scattered marks throughout, and retains approximately 70% of it’s original black finish. The upper and lower fittings are made of nickel plated zinc, also with no visible lifting. The scabbard throat fitting is missing both screws. CONDITION: Blade is excellent, Scabbard is good. DMW
