The slightly curved American-manufactured blade has a deep narrow partial fuller on the left side. Brass hilt of massive Potter sword proportions, measuring about 7 - 1/2". Brass wagon-wheel guard with forward turned large quillon with scalloped edges. Massive 2 - 1/2" olive-shaped pommel. Square bone grip with deeply incised lines at each edge. Knucklebow is absent and appears to be missing since the period of use, dark original patina over the break. CONDITION: Untouched throughout. Blade retains a dark untouched patina. some scattered nicks and bending to edge. Brass retains a very dark, almost brown patina. Grip very good with a couple minor chips. PROVENANCE: Originally the property of Stephen Decatur the elder, descended through the Decatur family and consigned by a descendent. Accompanied by a notarized statement. DMG
