Great example of a German World War I flare pistol. The model "Sternsignalpistole SL" represents the first stainless steel flare pistol ever designed. These flare pistols were made expressly for the Kriegsmarine and were standard equipment on U-boats throughout World War II. This example is marked "ac/43" (Walther 1943) on the left side of the frame along with standard Kriegsmarine proof marks. The flare pistol features a wood hand guard with a hand stop at the front along with nicely checkered wood grips. CONDITION: The flare pistol exhibits scattered handling wear including various scratches. The proof marks remain sharp and clear. The wood hand guard and checkered wood grips exhibit light handling wear with a few small dents. The mechanisms function properly when cycled by hand. Overall very good. PROVENANCE: This flare pistol was once part of the renowned collection of Howard Resnick. JLD
