A rare Luftwaffe World War II armored SSK 90 "Fliegerstahlhelm", marked "SIEMENS, SSK 90, LUFTFAHRTGERATEWERK, HAKENFELDE, GMBH" on a sewn tag. The helmet is constructed with interlocking nickel steel plates creating an inner steel core, covered by padding and brown leather. Leather is supple with light to moderate wear, and its Fallschirmjager style chinstrap assembly is dry with light cracking where it has been folded over the rim. Freckling is present on the rivets and the "PRYM 9" marked snaps. Helmet is lined with a liner made from cotton very similar to the type used in Luftwaffe summer lightweight tan flight uniforms. Liner exhibits only very light wear. These "flyer's steel helmets" were only used for a couple of weeks in May of 1941, before they were withdrawn from service.
