March 15-17, 2022 Collectible Firearms & Militaria
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/16/2022
Lot consists of: (A) Piggy bank caricature of Adolf Hitler constructed of wood and composite material, painted yellow with black eyes, hair, and mustache. Impressed inscription near the coin slot that reads: 'Save for victory make him squeal.' Although it does not survive with this example, these banks would have had a small device placed inside that would make a squealing sound every time a coin was inserted. The cardboard stopper at bottom is not present. The bank exhibits several cracks and paint loss throughout its construction, in some areas revealing the wood. (B) Hand-painted porcelain caricature of Hitler marked "Made in Portugal" on the bottom of the foot along with maker marking. Most likely post-war, with scattered blemishes throughout. (C) Painted cast iron skunk caricature of Hitler which exhibits areas of paint loss and chips. Illegible marking on tail. (D) Wood caricature of Hitler's head with chips and other blemishes. (E) "Truffle Eater" by Oistros which contains poems and amusing illustrations regarding the Third Reich. (F) Small box of various home front pieces including cards, matchbooks, and other pieces which were made to poke fun at the axis powers. Most paper pieces exhibit discoloration and blemishes typical of old paper. Overall fair to very good. JLD
