Shipped from the Colt factory January 18, 1898 to Wyeth Hardware of St. Joseph, Missouri, shortly before the Spanish American War began. Correct factory applied nickel finish with 6" barrel chambered for .38 Colt, half moon front sight, frame notch rear, 6-shot fluted cylinder, fire blued small parts, and 2-piece brown hard rubber grips baring rampant Colt logo. Base of grips is inscribed "E. E. King./Mound City Mo.". Captain Edwin E. King served with Company B, 4th Regiment of the Missouri Volunteer Infantry, which mustered at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri May 16, 1898 and mustered out of service February 10, 1899. King is listed in a framed period "The Roll of Honor" muster document, which descended in the family with the revolver according to a relative who sold the revolver initially. A letter signed by this relative listing the revolver by serial number, along with the honor roll, and factory letter are provided with this lot. CONDITION: Excellent. Vast majority of the factory applied finishes are retained. Nickel has started to cloud in some areas with some bubbling and losses. Nitre blue is still bright. Grips are fine with a few minor nicks. Fine bright bore and excellent mechanics, indicating little use. Framed honor roll has some tearing, tape repairs and staining. Overall a great antique Colt double action with Spanish American War provenance to boot! BAS
