1 of 2,000 Model 1814 flintlock rifles contracted, with the exact amount actually delivered unknown, but considered extremely rare with numbers possibly below 100 known to exist. Made by R. Johnson in Middletown, Connecticut between 1814 and 1817. 33 - 1/2" half octagon to round rifled .54 caliber barrel with 2 iron barrel bands held with studs, iron double strap nosecap, blade front sight, and fixed rear notch sight. Barrel marked with "P / US". Walnut stock with iron hardware, cheekpiece, butter dish iron patchbox, and "JJB" stamped behind trigger guard tang. Flintlock with correct brass pan with "US" over "R. JOHNSON" markings. Comes with steel ramrod with trumpet end. PROVENANCE: Rich Guckes Collection. CONDITION: Overall good with metal turning a brown patina with some light surface corrosion. Lock has been reconverted long ago. Wood has dark appearance with usage marks and dings and some missing slivers along ramrod channel. Bore is now a .62 caliber smoothbore possibly rebored when shot out. Dark bore with good mechanics. A rare rifle. DLM
