Lot consists of: (A) Nice example of a Model 1860 Cavalry Saber, which was one of the most heavily used edged weapons during the Civil War. The sword is marked "US / 1864 / A.G.M." on the obverse ricasso and "C. ROBY / W. CHELMSFORD / MASS" on the reverse. The sword consists of a slightly curved blade, brass guard, and brown leather wrapped wood grip that is wrapped with brass wire and is complete with its original steel scabbard. CONDITION: The blade remains bright with scattered areas of pitting and spotting. No chips in the edges. The brass guard, knucklebow, and pommel exhibit a pleasing patina with age spots. The shallow grooved, center-swelled wood grip is in good condition with several small areas of leather loss and slightly loose wire. The steel scabbard is complete with its 2 carry rings and exhibits a chocolate patina with areas of pitting. Overall good. (B) Modified Ames M1860 Naval Cutlass. The cutlass is marked "19M / 149" on under the crossguard. The knucklebow is missing and the handle has been replaced with cast metal. CONDITION: The blade is heavily worn, exhibiting heavy pitting, and chips along the edge. The guard and pommel exhibit a heavy patina. Handle and guard wobble when handled. Overall poor. JLD
