Manufactured circa 1851 to 1854 with an estimated production of over 7000 pistols. Manufactured with rifled barrels, and an ingenious tip up barrel cluster that is capped from the rear and fired by a rotating striker, these pepperboxes were superior to their contemporary counterparts. This example is fitted with a ribbed 4-1/2" .31 caliber 5-barrel cluster. Sawback iron frame and rear of barrel cluster are factory scroll engraved. 2-piece smooth rosewood grips. CONDITION: Very good. Factory finishes have thinned to an attractive gray patina throughout. Some pits present near breech. Markings and engraving still clean. Grips have a dark appearance with a few dings and other minor impressions. Shootable bores with strong rifling. Good mechanics. PROVENACE: Ex. Rich Guckes. BAS
