Colt Special Model 1861 rifled musket, dated 1864 on lock. 40" round barrel in .62 caliber smoothbore with 3-leaf folding rifle rear sight and blade front. Barrel is dated 1864 near breech with "VP" proof on left side and has typically seen "STEEL" marking above woodline. 1 piece plain walnut stock and forearm in 3 barrel band configuration with iron nosecap and US marked military buttplate. No cartouches visible. Left side of stock is marked "3360" and hand carved "J.WS" on right. Matching "3360" on left side of barrel near "STEEL" marking. 3360 is thought to be a rack number. CONDITION: Excellent, as polished back to National Armory Bright, with markings crisp and scattered minor handling marks. Stock is excellent as sanded and finish added with no major signs of distress. Mechanically fine. Bore is bright and smooth as drilled out. TON
