Percussion Kentucky target rifle stamped "G. Spangler Monroe, Wis." made circa 1850. Spangler moved to Wisconsin from Somerset, Pennsylvania and is the son of Samuel Spangler. 34" rifled .42 caliber octagon barrel with 3 prong false muzzle, gunsmith made hooded front sight and rear notch sight, and Winchester style Vernier tang sight. Patent breech percussion ignition, back action commercial lock with double set trigger control. Extremely tight curl maple stock with German silver hardware. Original hardwood ramrod with worm attachment. A well-built rifle with ties to Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. CONDITION: Metal has nice even silvery brown all over appearance. Wood has beautiful aged finish with no visible repairs or restoration other than 4 added holes near front of trigger guard for unknown reason (possibly some sort of palm rest mount). Shootable bore with crisp mechanics. DLM
