Standard configuration K98 manufactured at the Mauser factory in 1938. The top of the receiver is stamped "42" above "1938", with "(Eagle) / 63" waffenamts present on the right side. Right side of buttstock bears an "(Eagle) / L" (indicating issue to the Luftwaffe) above 2 "(Eagle) / WaA63" waffenamts. Metal components are blued, with the receiver being mounted with a laminated wood stock. All numbers are matching, including the bolt assembly. Forward barrel band cannot be removed and handguard serial number cannot be confirmed. Rifle is accompanied by framed capture paperwork indicating capture by Alphonso Mattiucci, a wood box addressed to Mr. Vincent Mattiucci at 416 East 119 St., New York, NY, as well as an additional smaller wood box addressed to Mr. Vincent Mattiucci containing 2 K98 bayonets as well as a Czech army accepted vz. 24 pattern bayonet. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original factory applied blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear showing through top gray and brown patina overall, as well as some scattered areas of inactivate oxidation. Mirror bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Stock shows moderate marks from storage and handling with a a mild gouge on the left hand side. Bayonets show wear overall but are otherwise fine. Wood shipping boxes exhibit age related cracking and losses to the exterior laminated panel, but are otherwise sturdy and serviceable. Capture paperwork shows large losses overall, but is entirely legible. A nice pre-war Luftwaffe issued K98 with capture paperwork. MLW
