In appearance, the shashka is a mix between a sabre and a straight sword. This example is a World War II era Model 1927 Russian Cossack shashka and features a slightly curved, single edged, and deeply fullered blade. There is no guard and the handle features a grooved wood grip and a brass pommel that is devoid of Soviet decoration other than a star marking. This was common for the later shashkas, as production quantity was dominant over decoration. The ricasso is dated "1945" and is marked "HM3". Brass ferrule is marked and numbered "562". The shashka is complete with its correct leather covered wood scabbard with brass mounts. The middle mount is marked and numbered "156". CONDITION: The blade remains bright and exhibits scattered blemishes. Wood grip is intact with light handling wear. Brass components exhibit a pleasant patina. The scabbard exhibits various cracks with scattered dents and scratches. Overall very good. JLD
