German 19th century percussion stalking rifle marked "W. LUSTMANN", "WOLFENBUTTEL", who was a gunmaker in that city in Germany. The only other visible marking is a "Crown over V" which may be an early 1890s proof. It appears to be a .44 caliber, and the action is opened by pushing the lever under the trigger guard down. Front and middle sight are mounted in dovetails, sling swivels on barrel and stock, steel butt plate, and adjustable set triggers. Walnut stock has grip checking, and forearm is checkered. CONDITION: Rifle barrel retains 85-90% of its bluing, and light thin case hardening is present on the receiver, side plate, and trigger guard. Steel butt plate has been renickeled. Stock and forearms appear to have been refinished. Set triggers function properly, bore is mostly bright, and rifle is mechanically sound. WEZ
