US Model 1836 flintlock pistol manufactured by R. Johnson and dated 1842. 8 - 1/2" round barrel in .54 caliber smoothbore with brass blade front sight and captured ramrod on swivel. Barrel is marked with "U.S." / "JH" / "P" proofmark near breech. 1 piece plain walnut stock with iron mountings. Stock bears sharp "JLB" and "WAT" inspector cartouches on left side opposite lock. Barrel has been numbered 4286 on underside (possibly a rack number) and is marked "20" in a medallion on right side of grip. CONDITION: Excellent plus, and still National Armory Bright with minor freckling and storage marks. Stock is excellent with cartouches sharp and 2 thin cracks with scattered minor handling marks. Action is tight and crisp. Bore is bright and smooth, possibly unfired. A high condition example of one of the best regarded and most attractive US Martial Pistols that was the main issued sidearm in the Mexican-American War. TON
