Lot consists of: (A) Merwin & Bray Sure Thing single shot derringer. Made circa 1860s, being actually produced by the Bacon Company. "SURE THING", marked on the top of the barrel. The right grip is marked with the serial number "928", as is the inside of the frame. Octagonal iron barrel with silver plated brass, blade front sight. Brass frame, also being silver plated. Rosewood grips on a square butt frame. CONDITION: Metal retains 50% of its original finishes, with the barrel turning an even brown patina. Frame finish is wearing, allowing tarnished brass to be seen in places. Grips have light interior cracks. Exteriors have finish wear. Bore is heavily frosted with some pitting. Little rifling retained. Hammer is tight, being mechanically fine. (B) Merwin & Bray single shot derringer. Made circa 1860s, most likely produced by Bacon Manufacturing. Top of the barrel is marked "MERWIN & BRAY / NEW YORK". Matching serials on the inside of the frame, and on the back side of both grip straps. Iron, blued finish, octagon barrel with brass front sight. Silver finished brass frame, with a square butt. Varnished rose wood grips. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finishes, with the barrel beginning to form a brown patina. Frame has trace amounts of silver, with tarnished brass visible in most areas. Grips are excellent. Bore has some light frosting, but retains strong rifling. Tight hammer, being mechanically fine. JWA
