William Irving single shot derringer. Made circa 1862-1864 at the James Reid factory in New York, with probably less than 100 being made. Top of the barrel is marked "W.IRVING". Matching serials on the bottom of the barrel, inside of the frame, and on the inside of both grip straps. 2 part barrel, with a brass pin front sight and v-notch cut out on the hammer. Barrel is blued, with the square butt frame being brass (most likely originally nickel plated). Varnished rosewood grips. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finish, with the barrel forming an even gray patina. Brass frame is tarnishing, with little signs of cleaning. The grains on the interior of the grips are opening up, but are very good overall. Bore is frosted and pitted. Good overall rifling. Tight hammer, being mechanically fine. JWA
