1 of 25,000 manufactured circa 1866 from leftover Civil War 1863 musket components. National Armory Bright 36 - 1/2" barrel sleeved to chamber .50-70 centerfire cartridges with eagle head proof visible at breech. Blade front sight and 2-position rear sight. Hardened breech block dated "1866" with eagle head proof. Case hardened lock plate date "1864" and marked ahead of cock with federal eagle and "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD". Standard walnut stock with script "HTH" inspector cartouche. Stock is mounted with 3 spring retained bands and a "US" marked buttplate. Complete with cleaning rod. CONDITION: Very good. In-the-white components are still bright with some cleaned oxidation spots and traces of an older protective coating. Lock plate and breech block retains portions of its hardened finishes with release a possible replacement. Stock is good some indentations and abrasions. Bright bore displaying well defined rifling.
