Lot consists of: (A) Double action percussion pistol made circa 1840s through the 1860s by Allen & Thurber with a 2" .28 half octagon turn off barrel. 1845 style action with u shaped mainspring and bar hammer marked "ALLENS PATENT". Iron frame with light scroll engraving and a 2-piece walnut grip. CONDITION: Very good displaying a pleasing gray patina with a few traces of original finish. Grips are good with a few impressions. Dark bore. Fine mechanics. (B) Very similar in configuration to gun (A) but unmarked with a slightly different pattern of scroll engraving. CONDITION: Very good exhibiting a mottled gray patina. Grips are good with scattered marks. Lightly pitted bore. Good mechanics. While not entirely matched, the pistols are a near pair with and are housed together in an attractive felt lined hardwood presentation case, which remains in very good condition showing some minor bruises.
