Lot consists of 11 items. (A) 1792 letter to Gen. St.Clair regarding a debt. (B) 1796 list of supernumerary officers. (C) 1796 letter from Fort Ontario from Capt. Clarke 60th Regt. to an agent for American troops notifying them he cannot give them possession of the fort until their supplies are moved, which he expects in few days. Situated in Oswego, the fort was held by the British until the Jay Treaty of 1796. (D) 1801 letter from Sec. War Dearborn to Pennsylvania Gov. Mckean regarding fort at Presque Isle, an agent has been selling land on which the fort erected a mill and storehouse. Separation lines on fold. Stains. (E) 1 Aug. 1795 Greenville order to the commissary to issue beef, flour, and whiskey “to the Wyandots” signed by H. De Dutts, ADC. Henry De Butts served in the 1st Infantry, 4th Sub Legion, and 4th Infantry from 1791 to 1797, rising from lieutenant to captain in 1792. Corner missing lower left. Black paper adheres to back at upper right. (F) Order as above signed by another officer, for beef, flour, and whiskey “for the Ottawas.” Corner missing lower left. (G) Fort Washington 15 Nov 1792 return of clothing issued to Shaylor’s company of riflemen of the 2nd Sub Legion. Coats, vests, hats, overcoats, overalls, etc. for sergeants, musicians, and for rank & file. Signed by Lt. Bissell, QM 2nd Sub Legion. (H) Letter from Fort Jefferson 31 Dec. 1795 that he has sent report on the garrison and noting some whiskey supplies on hand belonging to private citizens, addressed to Maj. John Mills, Adj. Gen., at Greenville. Ft. Jefferson, Ohio, was built in 1791 and abandoned in 1796. (I) Provision return for 1 soldier in 1st US regiment, 4 May 1797, signed by officers of the 1st Infantry and 2nd Infantry, Fort Le Beouf, (Waterford, Pennsylvania, the third fort on the site, built by the US 1794 and abandoned 1814.) (J) Treasury Dept. Circular 14 July 1798 to accompany an act of Congress prohibiting export of arms and ammunition and encouraging their importation. Signed by John Steele (1764 – 1815) as Comptroller of the Treasury. A significant act as the U.S. was also establishing the national armories at the time to bolster domestic arms production. (K) Report of court martial held at Pittsburgh 15 August 1799. A private is convicted of going AWOL and sentenced to 75 lashes. CONDITION: Very good overall with exceptions noted above.
