A very nice example of a circa 16th-17th century halberd in the Italian or Swiss style. The halberd is a type of poleaxe that was used as a mainstay weapon for many armies over the course of several centuries. This example features a small head that measures approximately 30" and is pierced with several circular decorations. Given the the small head and these decorations, this example is most likely Italian or Swiss. A pair of iron straps, each secured with 3 flat, misshapen rivets secures the head to the haft. The straps are raised rather than impressed, and the haft is quite light suggesting that it is a replacement. The halberd measures approximately 99" inches overall. CONDITION: The halberd exhibits a gray patina with evidence of an older polishing. Scattered areas of freckling and pitting with areas of delamination. Head remains secured to the haft. The haft exhibits scattered dents throughout its length. A very nice and displayable halberd.
