For a similar example, likely by the same maker, see HV 2 on pg. 134 of "Flintlock Fowlers" by Tom Grinslade. The round iron barrel shows heavily worn private London proofs on the left side, as well as "RW" for Richard Wilson. The lock is a British Pattern 1777 lock. Brass furniture of classic early Hudson Valley form. Heavy stock of highly figured tiger maple. Replaced wooden ramrod with brass tip. Purchased by the consignor from George Neumann. CONDITION: Barrel and lock show heavy pitting overall and a grey surface. Touch hole has brass liner. Lock functions properly and is in its original flintlock configuration. Brass retains a mellow mustard patina and shows scattered marks from use. Stock heavily worn and refinished, shows scattered losses, cracks and marks from use. Front 41" of forend have been replaced. An early and attractive fowler. DMG
