Lock is indistinct, signature appears to be "Pierre P (insdistinct, possible Peyrot or a closer spelling). Barrel in 2 stages, rear stage with flat sides and sighting plane with rounded balance, with gold koftgari work in geometrics and 3 lightly pressed poincons, indistinct. A panoply on arms is just ahead of the wedding bands at girdle, silver foresight with further gold koftgari lightning bolts. Ramrod, a replacement, with single ferrule and feeding into a reinforced mouth. Flat lock with lightly beveled edges, unbridled pan cover, swan neck cock. Bushed touchhole. Rear of lock with etched florals, and indistinct signature under faceted pan. Double lock bolt silver sideplate with nautical motifs including shells and a trident. Silver trigger guard with florals and shell motifs on a chased ground with finial broken off long ago. Vacant slot for thumbpiece. Buttcap with flags, florals, and other motifs on a cased ground, one long silver stirrup damaged. CONDITION: Barrel gilding possibly refreshed as it is slightly heavy is several areas, with a smooth chocolate patina with flashes of dove grey. Lock with more patina than barrel obscuring legends, lightening towards back. Cock screw a replacement. Damage to silver mounts as mentioned above. Stock has numerous handling marks, cracks, but is solid on the whole. Mechanically fine, bore is good.
