Receiver manufactured in 1886, with the rifle likely assembled into its present configuration at a later date, possibly in the early 1890s during a parts cleanup. 32 - 5/8" barrel chambered in .45-70 with "V / P / (Eagle Head) / P" proofs, blade front sight, and "R" marked Buffington rear sight. "U.S. / MODEL / 1873" low arch breech block and "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / 1873" marked lock plate with federal eagle motif. Full length walnut military stock with 2 spring retained barrel bands, 2-piece trigger guard, a "US" marked butt plate with tool compartment, and the iconic ramrod bayonet. CONDITION: Very good. Metal components exhibit a plum gray patina with portions of arsenal finish retained, especially on the trigger guard. Stock retains its original dark, age crackled finish with no cartouche or firing proof visible. Strong bore. Fine mechanics. BAS
